Interstate Gas Marketing Inc. (IGM) headquartered in Indiana, Pennsylvania began operating as an oil and gas company in the Appalachian Basin in 1987. Our initial business efforts were aggregating and delivering Pennsylvania natural gas production to industrial and commercial end users in the Mid-Atlantic United States. Due to the backgrounds and training of the founders it was natural that we would soon start focusing a significant amount of our energy on developing the abundant natural gas and oil reserves of Western Pennsylvania.
Today, as we enter our 20th year in business, IGM still markets gas to wholesale, industrial and commercial customers while Interstate Gas Marketing and our wholly owned affiliate Northeast Energy have grown to become one of the leading fully integrated energy companies in the Northern Appalachian Region. We employ over 140 people in all aspects of oil and gas production, exploration, drilling and delivery. Since year 2000 Interstate Gas Marketing and our partners have put over $45,000,000 of investment capital to work in Western Pennsylvania drilling projects. Our main focus is developing low risk, long lived conventional and unconventional drilling and development projects in Western Pennsylvania focusing on natural gas. This includes conventional natural gas, fractured shale gas, enhanced recovery and rework projects. IGM owns and operates over 690 active natural gas wells in Western Pennsylvania along with the associated gathering systems.
Our wholly owned affiliate company, Northeast Energy and their staff have our own fleet of drilling rigs, service rigs and construction equipment. This along with our staff's experience and expertise allows us to do each of these aspects of the well completion process in house; drill site preparation, well drilling, well completion, setting meters, laying pipeline and land reclamation. These services can be offered on a contract or turnkey basis. In year 2006 alone, Northeast Energy drilled over 260 natural gas and oil wells in various areas of interest in 6 counties in Western Pennsylvania.
